April 2007 Weather Highlights
Summary of April 2007 Slightly Above Normal Temperatures and Below Normal Rainfall
April 2007 started off with warm weather following a cool dry storm that
exited the state on the 28th of March. The high temperatures climb into the 90s on the 3rd
and peaked on the 4th with 91.8°F. Record highs were set on 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th!
The dry spring season continued following a dry winter which failed to produce the
forcasted El Nino rains. This was the fourth consecutive month with below normal rainfall. The April total
rain was 0.26 inches below normal.
The first rainfall of the month occurred on April 12th, this was the start of a series of primary dry storms
that moved though the area during the middle of the month. These storms produced cooler than normal temperatures and
several dusty windy days. The coolest night of the month occured on the 16th with 45.8°F . The coolest day of the month was on the 21st with mean of 57.9°F and a high 67.0°F, this was also the wetest day of the month with 0.12 inches. The last in the series of
dry storms exited the state on 23rd of the month.
High pressure returned with continue dry weather and the temerature climb back into the 80s on the 24th. The warm up continued with the 90s being reach two days later. Record heat returned on the 28th as the 100°F mark was reach for the first time (i.e. the ice broke on the Salt River!). This was the earliest occurance of this mark at Pepperridge. This broke the prior record highest April temperature of 99.2°F on April 26th, 2000. At the same time a cutoff low sneaked into the state causing isolated thundershowers. These storms were primary high based and dry. In fact a dust storm moved though late in the afternoon on the 28th dropping the temperature from the high of 100.6°F at 3:15pm down into the low 80s by 4:15pm, the peak wind gust was 36 mph at 4:20pm the highest of the month. The dust storm briefly reducing the visibily to 1/4 to 1/2 mile. The increased humidity and clouds led the warmest night of the month and year so far on April 30th.
By month's end there were only 4 days with measurable rainfall with only one day exceeding 0.10 inches
on the 21st. Another dry month ended with only 0.29 inches on rain. The Temperatures for the month ended up slightly above
average. With above average readings early in the month, below average through the middle of the month and above normal to end the month. Record highs were set on; 3rd,4th, 5th, 6th, 28th and 29th.
