Microferics TOA Lightning Display

Microsferics TOA Lightning Network

The TOdA (Time Of difference of Arrival) system is a network based lightning triangulation method
by employing multiple volunteer detection sites across Europe and North America. It provides high accuracy
detection which augments the participating stations existing lightning detection systems.

SW Lightning - Pepper Ridge North Valley is part of this project and supplies data to the TOdA network

Regional mLDN TOA Network 2 hr Lightning Plot
- updates automatically every 30 seconds -
(The Default setting Displays data within 438 miles of - Pepperridge North Valley) :

Network Stations are shown by the small Green dots
Use the Zoom Controls to see different distance plots

6 Hr Lightning time lapse: (Updates every 5 minutes)

Hover over for controls (near the center bottom of map) to manually control the Time lapse.
Otherwise it Runs Automatically (see lower right corner of map).

The Regional Lightning Network Coverage Map:

Network Stations are shown by the small White dots

The Local Lightning Network Coverage Map:

Network Stations are shown by the small White dots

Visit the Microsferics Home Page for more real-time maps and information on the network.

Note: Until there are more stations are reporting in Arizona and the Southwest Region strike display is limited.
Own a PWS in the US (especially AZ)? please Contact the Network if interested in joining.
NOTE: Operating a Boltek Lightning Detection System is no longer required to participate.

Real time lightning detection is here, just in time to track the monsoon season thunderstorms. The lightning detection system consists of a Boltek™ lightning detector with lightning analysis performed by Lightning 2000™ from Aninoquisi Software.

Nexstorm Static Lightning Map - Testing

Nexstorm Trac Report

When running Nexstorm - This Map and TRAC Storm report link update approximately every 5 to 10 minutes

The Cross is centered at Lat: 33.6503, Lon: -112.0285, Pepper Ridge North Valley - Phoenix, AZ., 85032

The map will automatically range from a radius of 300 miles down to 16 miles depending on lightning activity.

The Red Circle is 25 miles in radius.

+CG Positive cloud to ground strike - The most lethal type of strike.

-CG Negative cloud to ground strike.
+IC Positive in cloud or intracloud strike.
-IC Negative in cloud or intracloud strike.

Thunderstorm Ranging and Acquisition (TRAC) feature that identifies, tracks and
analyzes trends and characteristics of a thunderstorm.

Green
Indicates a weak thunderstorm with 1 to 10 strikes/min.
Yellow
Indicates a moderate thunderstorm with 11 to 49 strikes/min.
Red
Indicates a strong or severe thunderstorm with greater than 50 strikes/min.

Disclaimer Note: We have completed the calibration process of the storm ranging. Most Storms should now be correctly range, although due the limitations of the Boltek single antenna lightning system, some storms may be initially ranged incorrectly. Usually this corrects itself when multiple lightning strikes have occured, this allows a better analysis to be performed by the lightning 2000 software. Remember do not based your outdoor plans or activities solely on the lightning information provided here, this lightning display is for informational purposes only, and not intended to be used, for the protection of life or property. Remember to follow the, Lightning Safety Rules!, especially if thunderstorms are nearby!

Pepper Ridge North Valley Random Weather Facts

HEAVY RAIN/FLASH FLOOD
In Arizona, typically, the heaviest rain falls during the summer thunderstorm season, or Monsoon, in our state. The rain can accumulate very quickly, resulting in flooded streets or washes, and can even cause deaths via flash flooding. In Phoenix, the greatest rainfall in a 24 hour period was 4.98 inches on July 1-2, 1911. This total is quite a bit less than the Arizona record of 11.4 inches, which fell on Workman Creek (near Globe) on September 4-5, 1970.
