2010 Weather Station Highlights

12/31/09    2009 finishes as the driest year on record with
            0nly 4.43 inches the prior record was 5.40 inches
            recorded in 2002.
			
12/31/09    Also the year finishes without a freeze the coldest
            night was Dec 25th with 33.3°F The last freeze was
            record on Dec 28th, 2008 with 31.8°F

12/25/09    Coldest night of the year with a low of 33.3°F

12/07/09    First significant rainfall since August of  2009
            With 0.86 inches of rain and evening Thunderstorms
            that produced the strong wind gust of the year with 42 mph.

10/04/09    Nice fall weather continues as slightly below normal
            temperatures bring pleasant weather with highs in the 80s.  
  
10/02/09    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 54.6°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 57.3°F in 2002  
  
10/01/09    It's Official Monsoon 2009 is over and it was the
            Driest Monsoon on record with only 0.69 inches
            the prior driest Monsoon was 2002 with 1.28 inches

            old Record High was 102.9°F in 2001
  
08/06/09    New Record High Minimum set Today with a low of 87.1°F
            old Record High Minimum was 82.8°F in 2001 
			 
08/05/09    New Record High minimum set Today with a low of 90.2°F
            old Record High minimum was 84.2°F in 1997 and 2004
            Also this temperature set the ALLTIME record high
            minimum breaking the previous record of 89.2°F set
            0n Jul 15th, 2003!!!!			  
  
08/01/09    Extreme heat for July! for Pepper Ridge North Valley!!!
            The Hot temperatures of this past July produced a 
            monthly average of 95.0°F which was a the record for the
            Hottest July/month ever at Pepperridge breaking the old 
            record of 93.6°F set in July 2003!!!

07/27/09    Extreme heat returns! as a Heatwave returns to Pepper Ridge
            North Valley!!!  The Hot temperatures of this July thru today
            has produced a monthly average of 94.8°F which is a full 1.2°F
            above the Hottest July/month ever at Pepperridge set in 
            July 2003!!! These hot temperatures also tied or set new
            records for the date (see Below)

07/27/09    New Record High tied Today with a high of 111.1°F
            old Record High was 110.5°F in 1998
			
07/27/09    New Record High Mean set Today with a mean of 99.7°F
            old Record High Mean was 98.0°F in 2000
  
07/19/09    HOT! HOT! HOT!  Heatwave continues at Pepper Ridge
            North Valley!!!  These hot temperatures also set new
            records for the date (see Below)

07/19/09    New Record High set Today with a high of 110.8°F
            old Record High was 109.1°F in 2000
			
07/19/09    New Record High Minimum tied Today with a low of 86.4°F
            old Record High Minimum was 85.6°F in 2003
			
07/19/09    New Record Mean set Today with a mean of 99.3°F
            old Record Mean was 96.4°F in 2004	
  
  
7/11/09     Heatwave effects Arizona and Phoenix and produces the
            first 110.2°F day of 2009, avg date is Jun 29th.

7/01/09     The 2009 Monsoon Season has officially began on 6/29
            today marks the third day in a row with a average
            dewpoint reading at 55.0°F or higher, this is based on
            the older criteria by the newer set date system the 
            season began on June 15th!!!

6/24/09     Cool June ends with the first 105.0°F this is the 2nd
            latest occurance with Jun 28th 1998 being the latest
            occurance.

            Dry/Windy Storm the following records have been set!!

10/13/08    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 44.0°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 51.9°F in 2001

10/12/08    New Record Low Maximum set Today with a high of 71.0°F
            old Record Low Maximum was 75.0°F in 2000

10/12/08    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 48.1°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 75.0°F in 2000
			
10/12/08    New Record Low Mean set Today with a mean of 59.5°F
            old Record Low Mean was 63.6°F in 2000

10/11/08    New Record Low Maximum set Today with a high of 73.3°F
            old Record Low Maximum was 74.0°F in 2000				
			
10/11/08    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 53.8°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 55.8°F in 1998

08/29/08    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 70.7°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 72.2°F in 2004
			
08/28/08    Active Night Weather Wise - Severe Thunderstorms effect
            parts of the valley S.E. of Pepperridge.
			
            Sky Harbor records a gust of 75 mph numberous trees and
            related storm damage in Central Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.
			
            Daily lightning totals were alltime records with 94,333 
            lightning Flashes or Strikes, including 553 nearby flashes
            The total stroke count from those flashes was 231,460 strokes

07/24/08    Warm Night - Warmest of the year sets the following
            Record.
			
            New Record High Minimum set Today with a low of 86.4°F
            old Record High Minimum was 85.2°F in 2000

07/06/08    The 2008 Monsoon Has Began as of July the 3rd, Today
            Marked the third day in row with a Dewpoint average
            at 55.0°F or Above  At Pepperridge North Valley!!!
            So Based on the old traditional Dewpoint Method Criteria
            The Monsoon has Began. Based on the new method of set 
            dates the Monsoon began back on June 15th. For Complete
            details refer to are Monsoon rainfall Page.

06/20/08    HOT! HOT! HOT!  FIRST 110°F of the year at Pepper Ridge
            North Valley!!!  These hot temperatures also set new
            records for the date (see Below)

06/20/08    New Record High set Today with a high of 111.9°F
            old Record High was 110.9°F in 2005
			
            New Record Mean set Today with a mean of 94.8°F
            old Record Mean was 94.7°F in 1999 and 2005

05/26/08    New Record Low Maximum set Today with a high of 79.2°F
            old Record Low Maximum was 89.1°F in 1998
			
05/26/08    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 56.0°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 60.7°F in 2002 @ 2004
						
05/26/08    New Record Low Mean set Today with a low of 69.0°F
            old Record Low Mean was 76.8°F in 2004

05/25/08    The Cool Late May Weather Continues with the following
            records set the last 2 days!!

05/25/08    New Record Low Maximum set Today with a high of 78.2°F
            old Record Low Maximum was 87.7°F in 2004
			
05/25/08    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 56.2°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 61.0°F in 2002

05/23/08    UNUSUALLY COOL LATE MAY WEATHER Coolest MAY Day on Record
            with a High of only 65.5°F and a whopping 41.2°F cooler than
            Monday's Record High of 106.8°F

05/23/08    New Record Low Maximum set Today with a high of 65.5°F
            old Record Low Maximum was 85.8°F in 2002
			
05/23/08    New Record Low Minimum set Today with a low of 51.0°F
            old Record Low Minimum was 55.7°F in 2002
						
05/23/08    New Record Low Mean set Today with a low of 55.9°F
            old Record Low Mean was 76.4°F in 2002

05/21/08    New Record High Minimum set Today with a low of 73.3°F

05/19/08    New Record High set Today with a high of 106.8°F
            old Record High was 100.0°F in 2006
			
            New Record Mean set Today with a mean of 90.5°F

05/18/08    It is offical the first 100°F day of 2008 occured today at
            1:56pm the eventual high of 101.7°F was good enough to break
            the record high of 101°F last set in 1997 and Tied in 2006.
			
05/13/08    Windy Blustery day with dry Thunderstorms and cool 
            temperatures for May. Light rain fell measuring 0.01 inches
            marking the end to the 80 day streak of no rain from Feb 23rd 
            to May 12th, which will be recorded as the 7th longest at
            Pepperidge North Valley!!!

05/11/08    79 Days without any measurable rain not even a trace
            2008 is now tied with 2001 for the 7th Driest streak on
            record. In 2001 no rain fell between Aug 18th and Nov 4th.
            This year the last rain fell 79 days ago on Feb 22nd!
            0.06 inches

04/13/08    Very Warm day with the 1st 90.0°F Day of 2008 occured TODAY!!
            with a final daily Max temp of 90.5°F

04/01/08    Driest MARCH on record with no measurable
            precipitation only a Trace was recorded on the 16th!!! 
            This was the driest March since 2002's 0.02 inches.
            Full details for March will be release shortly.

03/25/08    Nice warm weather continues with today
            begin the warmest day so far with a high 
            of 85.4°F

02/29/08    Beautifully warm Leap Day leads to the
            following new records today;
						
            New Record High set Today with a high of 81.6°F
            old Record High was 70.2°F in 2000
			
            New Record High Min set Today with a low of 50.4°F
            old Record High Min was 42.8°F in 2000
			
            New Record Mean set Today with a mean of 65.6°F
            old Record Mean was 57.9°F in 2000

02/10/08    Beautifully warm weather the last two days,
            lead to the following new record;
						
            New Record High set Today with a high of 76.7°F
            old Record High was 74.0°F in 1997

01/18/08    Cold Morning Today with freezing Temperatures

New Record Low Set Today with a low of 30.0°F
            Old Record low for the date  was 34.0°F in 2002
            & 2007

01/18/08    New Record low Mean set Today with a avg of 43.7°F
            old Record low Mean average was 44.1°F in 2001

            Quick stats - December 2007 was the coldest
            December on record with average temp of 49.6°F
            -0.3°F colder than the previous record of 49.9°F
            set in 2001 this month followed one of the warmest
            November's on record!

Rainfall for 2007 7.49 inches third driest year
            on record. This was case even after a wet end of
            Nov and early Dec.

MONSOON
The word "monsoon" comes from the Arabic "mausim" which means "a season" A common misuse of the term "monsoon" is to refer to INDIVIDUAL thunderstorms as "monsoons" (example - "The North Valley was pounded by monsoons this evening!"). The correct statement would be "The east valley was pounded by strong thunderstorms this evening!"

A MONSOON is a Seasonal wind shift that often brings a dramatic increase in moisture, and associated shower and thunderstorm activity, to the affected region. As the monsoon ends, and the winds shift again, the reverse occurs, with much drier air moving into the area.
